Walking back from a client's office last week, I ran
into my 'mama' from Nguna island. Her's was the very first
village I stayed in outside of Port Vila, and she and
Tamara (her husband) treated me with more kindness and
patience than I deserved. They took me in as their son.
I'll never forget the tears she shed when we said good-bye.

This woman is from Ambrym. She's one of Jacob's 'mothers',
meaning that she's close family with his birth mother, who
died when he was a child.
As with many close members of my proxy family, I have not
been told her name. I know her only as 'Mama'.

The company that markets Tanna Coffee recently created a line of accessories featuring this graphic. It's about as accurate a depiction of Tanna as Juan Valdez is of Colombia, but the coffee mug in the man's hand is tongue in cheek enough to make it amusing.
