One of a series of promotional photos I took for a friend who's developing a new tourism agency.
This woman was terribly uncomfortable with the camera at first. I never did
manage to get her to smile and look at the camera at the same time. It's
a shame, because she had more character in her face than anyone else
I shot that day.
Cyril is Georgeline's father. In the manner of fathers the world over,
he can sometimes be curt, demanding and undemonstrative. But his love
for his grandchildren is undeniable.
Traditional houses in Pentecost are constructed without windows, to protect
against hurricanes. The only light in the house during my visit to
came through the door. A flash would have been terribly intrusive, so I whiled
away the rainy hours searching for the right low-light settings.
