Young boy - Vureas, Vanua Lava

Some colleagues of mine were presenting a workshop in the village of Vureas, on the west side of Vanua Lava. On the last day, I hopped on the boat that was heading out to pick them up. When I met the chief after the closing ceremony, I asked him if I could take photographs. He looked alarmed and made it clear that I should not. Lucky for me, then, that I had already taken about ten while I sat in another part of the village, waiting for the workshop to finish.

Most of the children in the village ran and hid the moment they saw me. This young boy was braver than most. He came and sat down quite close and inspected me quite openly. I'm not sure he knew what I was doing when I took his photo.
