In the 1970s and 1980s, the Catholic Church became a place of refuge for the Timorese people. Approximately 70% of the population converted in that time. This monument, reminiscent of Christ of the Andes, overlooks Dili. It is a popular pilgrimage place for people throughout Timor-Leste.

The massive yet airy bulk of Sveti Sava church dominates the
Belgrade skyline. It balances the bulk of the great mosques
of its time with lighter italianate influences reminiscent of
the Duomo in Florence.
This view, through the ever-present haze of urban smog,
enhances its feeling of lightness.
As construction roars all around, this monument dominates a major intersection between Kuta, Sanur and Denpasar in Bali, Indonesia.

Vanuatu's islands tend to come in two varieties: Volcanic islands with
sharp peaks and coral atolls. The view from the top of Nguna island
shows a number of the former. The sharpest island, to the lower left,
rises about 1000 feet straight out of the ocean. It's unforested, inhabited
only by nesting seabirds.
Ambrym's volcano has been amking noise, and the sunsets here in town are spectacular.
Zemun, once a separate village but now a suburb of Belgrade,
once marked the eastern edge of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
As a result, it has a markedly more '<i>Mittel Europan</i>'
feel to it than other neighbourhoods. This view across the
rooftops captures a little of its feel.
